Who We Are
Maureen is the owner of Rose Hill Heritage Farm 1630 and is our baker, harvester, canner, miller, and the most enthusiastic tractor driver. She and Joe met when they attended college at the University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!). She began her career as a middle school English teacher in Tennessee before starting her most important work in life as a stay-at-home mom. She homeschooled her son John and organized both educational and social field trips and met wonderful friends.
Joe is Maureen’s husband and chief mechanic on the farm. His happy place is on the farm working with his family and learning the art and the science that makes this type of farming work. He enjoys working with the farm equipment, roasting coffee, and milling wheat. His other passion is cooking for his family with the products from the farm and baking the cruffins (team cinnamon, team almond which are you?) for the farmer’s market.
Katie is Maureen and Joe’s daughter. She works on our social media and loves to be at the farmers market meeting and greeting our customers and friends. Katie graduated from William and Mary (Go Tribe!) and teaches English. When not teaching or working at the farm she enjoys reading, volunteering, and petting every dog she sees. Katie has moved to Guam temporarily to begin a new adventure in life.
John is Maureen and Joe’s son and the farm’s best helper. He keeps everyone entertained with stories and his sense of humor. There is nothing John enjoys more than making everyone smile. John’s interests include anime and D&D.
Snowy and Maggie are the family’s dogs. Snowy oversees the finding of sticks and sticking her nose in whatever Joe is doing. Maggie is retired now and enjoys sleeping in the cool grass and relaxing.
What We Value
Natural and Chemical Free — rather than using pesticides that harm the soil, the farmer, the consumer, and the nearby waterways, we use natural protectants against pests. We know how harmful chemicals can be for the environment and for our bodies and we want to grow our produce as naturally as possible. [Continued info about farming chemical free]
How We Farm
We utilize low-till, regenerative and biological farming practices to ensure that the land and water continue to thrive for years to come. These practices make for even higher-quality produce. We return everything back to the soil in the form of compost, cover crops, and natural pollinators. We utilize raised beds to improve the soil nutrients for healthier vegetables. This land has been historically farmed since the 1700s, deeded in 1630, we want to celebrate its rich history by honoring best farming practices.
